Bowerhaus came about when Shentel and Elizabeth (upon graduation from
university) Decided to join forces and start a jewelry line together.
It’s only a natural progression, as from a young age, both were keen on
eclectic trinkets, charms and ornaments which they had been acquiring on
their extensive travels; creating their own necklaces, bracelets and
earrings.
For years the sisters had been creating their own necklaces and earrings with the Collaboration of jewellers in Sydney and Hong Kong. Their mother, Betty Lee, taught them how to buy the best Australian pearls and encouraged they create their own designs. The sisters would often create fun pieces for friends and family. The common design thread throughout all their creations was simplicity and quality.
Shen-Tel and Elizabeth travel all around the globe to source unique materials for the designs.“Travelling to places like India, Japan, Italy and China really opened our eyes to the variety of gemstones and pearls the world has to offer,” says Shen-Tel.

Their philosophy is that all accessories for their Bowerhaus creations has to be naturally acquired from the land such as pearls, natural gemstones (not plastic or synthetics), and shells from plants such as coconuts and bamboos.
With the aim being affordability and quality for the Australian market the girls designed, source and produce their first collection they simply called “Hello.” The collection was designed with Keishi and Baroque pearls that were all hand selected by the sisters for their unique raw qualities which they christened ‘Rebel Pearl.’ “We never go for flawless pearls. We go for pearls with personality that is unique and irregular. For us, individuality is everything and we want each piece to have its own special characteristic,” says Elizabeth. The design has to be simple and uncomplicated. Their viewpoint is that it should enhance the wearer and not overwhelm one’s personality. Most importantly it has to be an item that can be worn by the young and old so it can be pass as a cherished item from generation to generation.
“We had an occasion where a grandmother bought a necklace for her granddaughter and ended up keeping it for herself. We had another client who returned a necklace for exchange but only to leave with the same necklace as she “had gotten attached” to the piece,” says their mother, Betty Lee, “I believe that the love my daughters put into each and every piece of their work reflected positive energy on the wearer. Many a customer told me that they felt lucky wearing Bowerhaus.”
